Capitals shut out Islanders

Braden Holtby made 24 saves in the Washington Capitals' 4-0 preseason win against the New York Islanders at Verizon Center on Sunday. 

Andre Burakovsky scored 1:06 into the game and Lars Eller and Alex Ovechkin had goals in the second period for the Capitals, who open the regular season at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. T.J. Oshie scored with 5:07 remaining. Washington went 1-for-7 on the power play.

Jaroslav Halak stopped 23 of 27 shots for the Islanders, who begin the regular season at the New York Rangers on Thursday. New York went 0-for-5 on the power play.
